Amazon stopped accepting Amazon Appstore submissions from developers in Germany, stating that “we have been forced to impose this restriction due to a legal action filed by Apple in Germany seeking to prevent us from using the term appstore.” While the Amazon Appstore is currently not available in Germany, developers in this country are able to submit apps for sale in the US version of the store. The online retailer said that it believes Apple’s claim “is without merit,” and it is actively contesting the action.

Apple is involved in multiple lawsuits over the term “app store,” which it is attempting to argue refers exclusively to its own App Store. However, numerous companies have argued that it is a generic term. Last month, it was reported that the signs were not looking good for Apple in its case with Amazon, which is due to be heard in October 2011.

According to VentureBeat, Aaron Rubenson, director of the Amazon Appstore, said that the company now has a catalogue of more than 14,000 titles, compared with 4,000 at launch.
