Apple’s iCloud service has gone live (although it’s still in beta mode) along with details of how much Apple is going to charge you for storage

Apple has launched the beta website for its brand new iCloud service. It’s currently only available to developers, but is expected to go fully live to the public as soon as the iPhone 5 and iOS 5 launch.

The new beta website also shows off iCloud’s selection of web apps such as the iWork Suite, Address Book/Contacts, Calendar, Mail and ‘Find My Phone.’

And if you’re lucky enough to have either iOS 5 or OS X 10.7, you can now swing by the iCloud site and check out what’s happening.

‘The iCloud service stores a variety of content — music, books, photos, contacts, calendars, and more — associated with a person’s Apple ID account,’ says Venture Mobile, ‘and pushes it to all their iOS devices. The service will also back up each user’s important data once a day.’

According to reports, iCloud’s web applications will look and feel very much like their desktop PC counterparts.

Apple has confirmed that every user will get 5GB of free storage, which doesn’t include iTunes purchases or data from apps. If you want more storage, however, you’ll have to cough up some cash for the privilege.

Here’s the official storage tier pricing for iCloud:

  • 10 GB for $20 a year
  • 20 GB for $40 a year
  • 50 GB for $100 a year

As we said, iCloud goes live this autumn and will be available to all consumers using Apple products powered by iOS 5.
