Video calling within the Skype Android app is now supported by the Samsung Galaxy S2, the Acer A5 and a slew of HTC handsets

Another batch of handsets now support video calling within the official Android Skype app.
Originally the Samsung Google Nexus S, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo, Sony Ericsson Xperia pro, and HTC Desire S could make one-two-one video calls.
Now the supported list is as follows:
- Samsung Galaxy S II
- Samsung Galaxy S
- Samsung Droid Charge – Verizon
- Samsung Galaxy Tab HTC Desire (2.2)
- HTC Thunderbolt – Verizon
- HTC Sensation
- HTC Evo 4G
- HTC Evo 3D
- HTC Incredible S
- HTC Desire HD
- HTC Flyer
- LG Revolution – Verizon (2.2)
- Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY
- Sony Ericsson Xperia ray
- Sony Ericsson Xperia mini pro
- Acer A5
If your device isn’t on the list, fear not. Anything above Android 2.2 should work, but Skype says ‘the call quality may not be as good.’
Slightly annoyingly, only the back camera will work with Android 2.2 Froyo, which means the process of video calling a loved one could be a little more arduous but still doable. This is because only Android 2.3 and above allows apps to make use of front-facing snappers.
The clever thing with Skype is you don’t need to be on a wireless network connection – 3G data also works. Of course, the signal may not be as good but that depends on your coverage.
Skype, which was bought by Microsoft, allows users to communicate using not just video calling but also via instant messaging and calls. The big allure is Skype-to-Skype use is completely free.
Skype can be downloaded from the Android Market for free.
