Amazon is said to have begun prepping its next-generation Kindle Fire tablet
Published on Mar 26, 2012
Amazon’s next-generation Kindle Fire tablet is reportedly hitting production very soon, according to reports from inside the company’s supply chain.
Details are pretty scant at present, but DigiTimes is reporting that Catcher Technology has recently received orders from Amazon for a new Kindle Fire tablet PC. There’s no word on spec, hardware or size at present – although many expect the new Kindle Fire to be a larger device.
‘Catcher will supply the chassis to Amazon from its plants in Taizhou, China with estimated gross margin to be more than 40 per cent,’ claimed DigiTimes’ source.
Catcher refused to comment on the source’s claims.
Amazon has yet to launch the original Kindle Fire in the UK, following a 2011 Q4 launch in the US. The budget Android-powered tablet will be coming to the UK, with latest reports suggesting a Q2 release – although we originally heard it was scheduled for a January launch.
The massive delay will no doubt be to do with international licensing deals, which Amazon will have to re-calibrate with its content providers ahead of a global roll-out.
More news as we get it.
