Apple’s next smartphone, dubbed the iPhone 5, could be arriving by June this year

The iPhone 5 will be getting a release date in either June or July, according to reports.
Foxconn, the manufacturer which produces Apple products, is gearing up to start churning out iPhone 5 handsets, according to a company insider. If this is accurate it would suggest a June or July launch for the new device given Apple’s typical six month turnaround.
The anonymous source also claims to have seen multiple prototype devices which are all very distinctive, making it difficult to determine what the actual end product will be like, according to 9to5mac.
Despite the significant differences between each, the ‘reliable’ tipster has revealed there are some consistent features across all the sample models and specifically that they all have screens which are larger than 4-inches.
Allegedly none of the handsets witnessed by the source sport the ‘teardrop’ shape which was widely rumoured following a leak last year, ahead of the iPhone 4S release. They’re also all very different in form factor from the iPhone 4S.
It’s interesting stuff but it’s also slightly contradictory as apparently none of the prototype models are the final build. If Apple is at the stage where it still has a handful of different prototype models surely production can’t start until a final build is chosen?
9to5mac points out that its source is the same person who, ahead of Apple’s announcement last year, revealed that the company would not be unveiling the iPhone 5 then, despite many rumours suggesting it would.
At the very least, the information about a non-teardrop shape and a 4-inch or larger display is consistent with a report from iLounge towards the end of last year.
